Every Society Gets The CRIMINAL it Deserves. However what is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on" ...ROBERT KENNEDY
Very powerful words aren't they?
Which brings me to the reason I'm writing this. I don't see Milwaukee receiving the kind of law enforcement it should be insisting on. Instead I see the citizens sitting back and just saying "oh well this is just business as usual"
What do I mean by this?
Jim Doyle wants to appoint a commission to "explore the insanely high black incarceration rate in Wisconsin" (Capitol Times 1-15-07) Read: If your black and commit a crime we'll give you a "get out of jail free card" (and you just know that IS what the commission will conclude, under the cover that we need to provide "more opportunities" (TRANSLATION: more money)for black people to succeed
- A pizza Deliveryman is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, for shooting 2 robbers in the span of 6 months while both of the robbers get off without being charged.(After BOTH admitted to intending to rob, the deliveryman) (JS online 2-1-07)
-We have fights breaking out at high schools and High School sporting events and MPS decides that banning cellphones and restricting attendance to Basketball Games is somehow going to make the problem just disappear. And nobody wants to file charges against the people who started either melee.
-Milwaukee has a mayor who has been largely absent in even addressing the crime issue, and when he has its' been his BRILLIANT idea to send out the "bookmobile" to hand out Brewers tickets to kids' in the inner city. All the while-with a perfectly straight face, denying that Milwaukee has a crime and/or a Murder problem.
-And on a national scale we have the cases of the 2 Border Patrol agents who were imprisoned for 10 years each, for violating the "civil rights" of an illegal alien who was trying to smuggle drugs into the US.
So what is the common link in all of this? It is the fact that we as citizens have become ALL TOO WILLING, to just sit back and allow our homes and streets, to become over run with these criminals while sitting back, shaking our heads and saying "well there is NOTHING I can do"
Well folks I am here to tell you that things can be done about it. I sincerely believe in the so called "broken windows" theory regarding crime. (meaning charge EVERY crime no matter how small)
See by sweating the small stuff, the big things will eventually (and that is the key word: EVENTUALLY) take care of themselves. Everybody nowadays is looking for the "quick fix" when it comes to crime. And where has that led us? Exactly where we are now, taking band-aid approaches that in reality are making criminals "feel good" about themselves by either not prosecuting crime or pleading them down to the point where criminals feel more emboldened to commit more crimes.
WAKE UP MILWAUKEE!!!! YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS!!!!
